The Top Of A Few Famous Actors

By Margaret J Moore

It's fun to trade opinions on favorite movies and favorite actors. Every person has an opinion and none is more right or wrong but everyone has their own favorites that they get pleasure from. Some actors amaze us with their enormous talent, some actors are pretty to look at and then of course some are both of those things. Now and again we admire an actor more for what he does away from the movie set as for what they do onscreen since some actors are just great people who use their fame and fortune to aid others who are less fortunate throughout the world.

Tom Hanks is an amazing talent. It is rather shocking that he got his start in a goofy TV show called "Bosom Buddies". Later on he played an amazing role as Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer who was infected by the AIDS virus and took on his own conservative law firm for firing him because of the fear that they may as well contract the disease. Tom won his first Academy Award for that role in 1993.

Tom Hanks is only the second actor ever to win back-to-back Academy Awards as he once more took home the Oscar the next year 1994 for his moving portrayal of Forrest Gump. The only other actor to do that was Spencer Tracy in 1937 and 1938. Tom has also entertained us with other fantastic movies but the list is too lengthy to cover.

Brad Pitt has been adored for his good looks ever since he charmed us in the 1991 film "Thelma and Louise". Although he hasn't always played the pretty boy roles. Recall "Seven" and "Twelve Monkeys" both from 1995? Sometimes his private life seems to overshadow his acting roles but the most notable thing about Brad Pitt is that he has been exceptionally active in humanitarian causes throughout the world and he has donated huge sums of his money to these causes.

When Hurricane Katrina practically wiped out the whole city of New Orleans, Brad Pitt started the "Make it Right Foundation". The foundation was created to assist in the redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. They build affordable and sustainable homes that are accurate to the diverse culture of the city of New Orleans. The purpose was to complete the building of the homes quickly so that the residents could return to their homes as soon as possible. These things have been Brad Pitt's true achievements.

There is an additional great actor who is greatly admired for his humanity. Paul Newman passed away this past September 26, 2008 but he will long be remembered for great movies like "Road to Perdition" from 2002, "The Color of Money" from 1986 and "Absence of Malice" from 1981. He also played Butch in the well recognized and ever beloved "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" from the year 1969. And then of course, the list of great Paul Newman movies goes on and on.

However we also remember him for his philanthropy. In 1982 he created a line of food products called "Newman's Own". It began with a salad dressing and then extended to include pasta sauce, lemonade, popcorn, cookies, salsa and more. He established a policy that all of the income generated from Newman's Own, after taxes of course, would be donated to charity. As of 2006, the company had donated in excess of $250 million.

Movies are enjoyable and they entertain us and we will always have our favorite actors and actresses along with our favorite movies. They might be our favorites because of their talent or for other reasons. But since it is now possible to download free movies instantaneously we won't have to miss any movie from any of our favorite actors. - 29852
