The Little Shop of Horrors: Classic black comedy in reference to youthful schnook who creates bloodthirsty plant and is made to kill in request to fuel it with human blood. Originally notorious as the film was shot In 2 Nights, however now thought to be one of Corman's best films. Nicholson has comical tad as masochist who flourishes on dental suffering; Cast includes Jonathan Cloud, Jackie Joseph, Mel Welles, Dick Miller, Myrtle Vail, and Jack Nicholson. (70 minutes, 1960)

The Gorilla: Disheartening comedy whodunit with the Ritz Brothers as fumbling investigators prowling around old shady home looking for a murderer. Cast includes The Ritz Brothers, Anita Louise, Patsy Kelly, Lionel Atwill, Bela Lugosi, and Joseph Calleia. (66 minutes, 1939)

The Big Trees: Viciously ambitious lumberman Douglas runs afoul of a religious sect and nearly everybody else around him in this cornball outdoor melodrama. Cast includes Kirk Douglas, Eve Miller, Patrice Wymore, Edgar Buchanan, John Archer, Alan Hale, Jr., Roy Roberts, and Ellen Corby. (89 minutes, 1952)

Gun the Man Down: Injured outlaw avows retribution on cohorts who left him in the middle of a stickup gone badly. Cast includes James Arness, Angie Dickinson, Robert Wilke, and Emile Meyer. (78 minutes, 1956)

Edward My Son: Well acted however talky, stagy drama in which brash, rags-to-riches Tracy coddles his child, hoping to inject within him a sense of accountability. Cast includes Spencer Tracy, Deborah Kerr, Ian Hunter, James Donald, Mervyn Johns, qnd Felix Aylmer. (112 minutes, 1949)

MacArthur: Intense, look at the legend of the elaborate military chief throughout WW2 and Korean Battle. Peck is phenomenal although film doesn't hold the punch of Patton. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Dan O'Herlihy, Ed Flanders, Sandy Kenyon, Dick O'Neill, and Craft Fleming. (130 minutes, 1977)

My Son John: Archetypal apple-pie parents (Hayes, Jagger) suspect their child (Stroller) of being a communist in this reactionary period piece. DramaticalIy overwrought, however this film is fascinating as a social history. Stroller (who's brilliant) died before film was completed. Cast includes Helen Hayes, Robert Stroller, Dean Jagger, Van Heflin, Frank McHugh, and Richard Jaeckel. (122 minutes, 1952)

The Big Road: This movie is about a shy busboy who commits himself to a selfish nightclub singer. The film is abnormal (and oddly watchable), with extremely unorthodox roles for both Fonda and Ball. Cast includes Henry Fonda, Lucille Ball, Barton Mafamilye, Eugene Pallette, Agnes Moorehead, Sam Levene, Ray Collins, Hans Conried, and Ozzie Nelson. (88 minutes, 1942)

Bleak Moments: Leigh's directing debut characteristic is a strong, intensely human drama, which charts the plight of a desolate office worker (Raitt) who looks after her retarded sibling and wishes that her relation with a schoolteacher can develop into to matrimony. Cast includes Anne Raitt, Sarah Stephenson, Eric Allan, Julia Cappleman, Mike Bradwell, and Liz Smith. (111 minutes, 1971)
