Amistad: This film is based on the true story of an unsuccessful mutiny aboard a slave ship in 1839 bound for the US. Three great men, abolitionist Theodore Joadson, lawyer Roger Baldwin, and former president John Quincy Adams fight for the freedom, and civil rights, of the African slaves.
The Foxes of Harrow: Lavish however lumbering story of philanderer breaking up his marriage to seek wealth and fame in New Orleans in 1820. Cast includes Rex Harrison, Maureen O'Hara, Richard Haydn, Champ McLaglen, Vanessa Brown, Patricia Medina, and Gene Lockhart. (117 minutes, 1947)
