Top 10 Best SNES Games Ever

By Jeremy Evans

Many game reviewers have created their list of the best SNES games ever. This is another interpretation of the top 10 best SNES games ever created. This list is obviously one author's opinion, but it is a solid list overall that incorporates many different considerations in the choosing of each game.

10 - Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting - This game increased the speed and added special techniques to what was already one of the premiere fighting games of the time. Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting restored more balance into the game play of a great game series.

9 - EarthBound - One of the best RPGs of the 1990s, EarthBound was considered one of the most original role-playing games at that time. It was praised for its storyline, humor, music, and characters. The game was criticized for its graphics and depictions of American culture, but overall was considered a success in both Japan and the United States.

8 - Final Fantasy II - Although not as ground breaking in the graphics department, FFII was praised for its content and the game's length. It added many of the features to the Final Fantasy series that fans would later come to expect from all Final Fantasy games.

7 - Mega Max X - As the second of the Mega Man series, Mega Man X became an incredible success in its own right. It spawned over a dozen follow-up games and spin off games for multiple console platforms. The series and characters remain some of the most popular of all time.

6 - Chrono Trigger - Considered by some to best the best RPG of all time on the SNES, Chrono Trigger has also made the number slot on many other overall lists as well. Its primary competition in the RPG category comes with the Final Fantasy series, specifically Final Fantasy III. But Chrono Trigger is definitely one of the best games of all time on any console.

5 - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - A hybrid game that was part adventure and part role-playing game, the Super Mario RPG was the final Super Mario game on the SNES. It has received very good reviews since its release and was consistently featured in many "best game of all-time" lists.

4 - Super Mario World - A side-scrolling platformer, Super Mario World was the ultimate Mario series platform game for the SNES. The game took three years to develop by the game design team, but has since sold over twenty million copies making it one of the best selling games ever.

3 - Final Fantasy III - The first of the Final Fantasy games to feature the job-change system. This, and other revolutionary developments, has made FFIII stand out as one of the best, if not the best, game in a series of great games. It still continually makes many reviewer lists as one of the best games ever.

2 - Super Metroid - Super Metroid was released by Nintendo in Japan in 1994. The game received fantastic review score from multiple reviewers. It received awards for the Best Action Game of 1994, Best Game of All Time in 2003, Top 100 Games of All Time, and numerous other awards by multiple reviewers.

1 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Acclaimed for its graphics and game play, A Link to the Past is generally recognized as one of the greatest games for any console platform of all time. The game was a massive success in both Japan and the United States and has been re-released on multiple platforms since its debut on the SNES.

That is it. That was one author's submission for the top 10 best SNES games ever. The list, like all top 10, top 25, or top 100 lists is completely subjective to the preferences of the author. This is a pretty solid list though when you consider series popularity, game units sold, and overall game reviews. What is your list of the best SNES games? - 29852
