A Full Review: Should You Buy The Nintendo Wii?

By Claire Greenway

Nintendo's Wii console was released to the public a while back in 2006, a breakthrough
of the video gaming industry.

The Wii uses brilliant interactive, motion-controlled gameplay on the contrary to
the normal gameplay using a contoller loaded with an analog stick and directional buttons.
This new concept makes the Wii a brilliant and attractive console for the young and old
alike. Other previous games consoles were mainly targeted for young men and teenage boys.

The Wii, overall, is a very attractive console. Its white, glossy finish will not fail to
please anyone, and it's the size of 3 DVD boxes stacked on top of each other. This makes it
one of the smallest games consoles ever made.

The Wii's controller is unique. Shaped like a TV remote control, it simply has
a directional keypad and several buttons. Its motion control feature makes it
the interactive controller that it is. Like the main console, the controller
is glossy white with blue lights.

One of the great things about the Wii's controller is its expansion port. This
can connect to a Wii nunchuk, lightsaber, sword, laser gun, steering wheel, bow,
crossbow, tennis racquet and all sorts of other peripherals.

Gaming on the Wii is just brilliant. There's a huge variety of games you can buy,
from family sports to action, that all make perfect use of the console's interactive
features. You can be hooked on the Wii for hours at a time, swinging at golf balls
or shooting at enemies on your favourite game.

Of course, as is expected, there are several downsides to the Wii, one of which is the quality of
graphics. The Wii's graphics are similar to those of the PS2, but is not even closely matched
to those of the other next-gen consoles, such as the PS3 Slim and xBox 360. It's a good thing
that the interactive gameplay compensates for the lack of graphics quality.

Another downside is that the WiiMote consumes the batteries very quckly, as you would expect from
a wireless games controller. Be sure to use rechargeable batteries for all of the controllers that
you used, otherwise the costs could steadily go up.

Not to be nit-picking, but another downside to the Wii is the fact that its many
peripherals available don't come cheap, but when compared to the xBox 360 and
all of its expensive frills, the addons for this console aren't too highly
priced.

This all leads to the question; should I get a Wii? The console is priced at a pretty good
170, so it won't make a massive hole in your wallet. This is predominantly a
family console, great for the old and young alike, and everything in between. If you're
looking for a console that will bring the family together for some fun, this is the console
for you! - 29852
