By Rachel P Barnes

It?s pretty hard to suppose that one of the most favorite actors or our time broke into stardom by playing a "sweathog". Even though he had a couple of roles earlier, one of his most outstanding roles came in 1975 to 1979 as "Vinnie Barbarino" in "Welcome Back, Kotter". Since that time, he has played in numerous roles. Here are some short reviews on a few that you can download and view tonight if you wish.

In 1977, in one of his most superb roles, Travolta played Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever. This motion picture came out at the height of the disco era and it played a major part in that time. Tony Manero was the king of the dance floor at the local disco. He meets a young woman named Stephanie and they reach agreement to dance together in a competition.

John Travolta was nominated that year for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role but he lost out to Richard Dreyfuss for "The Goodbye Girl".

Not long after that, John Travolta starred in a very popular movie that can still be seen on cable reruns. He teamed up with Debra Winger in one of the major motion pictures of the time, "Urban Cowboy". He plays the part of Buford "Bud" Uan Davis, who is small-town cowboy who goes to the big city of Houston. While in Houston, he hangs out at Gilley's, a popular bar that is owned by the country singer, Mickey Gilley.

He falls in love with "Sissy" (Debra Winger) and he tries to win a contest for riding a mechanical bull at Gilleys. Mechanical bulls could be found at many clubs around the country for a while after "Urban Cowboy". This movie and role was a great hit but it took many years and a few unsuccessful box office films before we saw much of John Travolta again.

However, by 1994 Travolta had again caught the eye of the public by starring in the best-selling movie, "Pulp Fiction" as Vincent Vega, a mob hitman. The motion picture also starred Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames and Uma Thurman and Quentin Tarantino directed it. The motion picture was a enormous box office success and also achieved critical acclaim.

Again, John Travolta was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role but this time he lost out to Tom Hanks for his portrayal of "Forrest Gump".

Several other films have also starred John Travolta including the sentimental favorites, "Michael" and "Phenomenon" both from 1996. You can download any Travolta motion picture or any other movie that you wish to observe tonight right now with just a touch of a button. - 29852
