1. Communication is essential for the success of every battleground. So, make sure you report the status of the objective you defend or attack, so that others will know what's going on.
2. In most cases, defending is more important than attacking. Even defending a base solo, you help your BG by reporting its status.
3. Do the BG quests. These will grant you a fair amount of honor and you'll be able to get the items you need faster.
