Beginner's Guide To Online Gaming

By Mark Walters

An up-to-date computer system or console, and an Internet connection, are all that you need to get yourself started in the world of online gaming. It's not even necessary to buy any games at first if your money won't stretch that far, as there are plenty of free online games, as well as demos of paid games, that can be downloaded for free.

So, now a bit more detail about exactly what hardware you need in order to play online games. The biggest choice is whether to opt for a gaming console, such as an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, or a home computing system, such as a PC or a Mac. Either is good for the purpose, so which one you choose is really down to personal preference. As for your Internet connection, you absolutely need to have a high speed broadband connection, otherwise when you play, if you can play at all, you'll experience extremely slow loading times, and lots of in-game lags and delays.

And, what about the games? People who have not gotten involved in online gaming are often surprised at the literally thousands upon thousands of games out there that can be found and played from the comfort of home. Many people are often amazed at the many games that can be found online that are not readily available in any other avenue. Regardless of your age or gaming experience, there will be a game, or more likely ten, perfect for you. Shooting, strategy, sports, puzzles, war and action are just some of the genres that you can choose from. Some are free and some are paid, some can be downloaded and some must be store bought, but don't worry feeling unknowledgeable as once you join a gaming community someone will be only to pleased to explain everything to you.

The most important thing that you need to do when readying yourself to become a member of the online gaming community is to sit down and review the plethora of sites out there on the Internet that offer online gaming and decide which one has the most features and games that might be of interest to you, both at the moment and in the foreseeable future, as your needs, wants and desires change. There's no need to load yourself down with too much information and too many details though as, after all, gaming is meant to be fun!

It's actually very easy to jump straight in and start playing without reading any manuals or websites. The on-screen instructions are clear enough that anyone can follow them, even first timers. In fact, that's probably the best way to approach it - throw yourself into it first and just play around and test out a few games, and then look for assistance from others when you're a bit clearer as to what you want to get from your online experience. - 29852
